Once the Cabinet approves the application, the solicitor or lawyer submits a sworn declaration and draft license to the Attorney General’s Office. They carefully examine these documents for any inconsistencies or necessary amendments before returning them to the lawyer.
All relevant documents, including the finalized license and sworn declaration, go to the Attorney General’s Office on approved paper. Next, onto the Prime Minister’s Office for approval and signature. Finally, after receiving approval and signature from the Prime Minister’s Office the license goes to the Survey Department. The lawyer then collects it on behalf of the client.
It’s worth noting that there is a nonrefundable application fee amounting to EC$ 5400.
Buying Property in St Lucia
To purchase or hold land the fees are as follows:
For land, up to 1 acre, the fee is $5,000.
For land over 1 acre and up to 10 acres the fee is $10,000.
For land over 10 acres and up to 20 acres the fee is $20,000.
For land over 20 acres and up to 50 acres the fee is $30,000.
For land over 50 acres and up to 100 acres the fee is $40,000.
For land exceeding 100 acres in size, the fee is $50,000.
If you require a license to hold land in trust there is a 5% charge based on the value of the trust property, as well as a stamp duty of 2% based on the property cost.
Engaging in property transactions in St. Lucia entails specific financial considerations. For buyers Stamp Duty, ranges from 2% to 5% of the property value.
